Artefakt in STUDIO (feb 2010)

Artefakt are Nick & Robin who worked in the WORM studio for nearly half a year, making a midi to cv routing, connecting the vintage synthesizers (thru 2 kentons). You can download their midi to cv manual on this blog.
They also worked a week with th midi to cv chain and produced the following song: Listen to their tune soul of the machine

here two small movies, one about www.wormstation.nl, were we keep and present our live audio and clips files from the past 10 years. here the edit and tag team!

also one floor below the studio, were nick and robin rule this week. apart from their midi involvement in the studio they like to use all kinds of gear they find in the studio, such as taperecorders. Robin discovered thereby a nice reel by Tomas Koner. (we put that on next week)

REcreating vintage techno sounds

The ongoing project by Nick and Robin from the HKU Multi Media School, regarding the midi to cv protocol for all the synths at our studio (arp 2500, arp 2600, putney, serge and korg ms 20), is leading us to interesting places, about tuning and syncing in particular...
in this clip we have the concussor, arp 2600 and ms 20 pretty tight....

IN THE NEW YEAR - 2010

Of course our audio workplace is open, from the beginning of january we were at it.
Here a group of kids teachers to be, being introduced to WORM and the word EXPERIMENTAL in particular: Study the effect it has on the young women...(it explains why we had 2 security gards present) here in this movie the students are about to participate in the annual WORM Name Seeking Challenge: indeed, the WORMstudio should be called (......) we think the WORMstudio shouldnt be called ( SoundLAB, WORMStudio): you think it should be called ???

Indeed we're currently working on the Ctrl-Alt-Esc- From Rotterdam, the WORM feature film, the theme song. Hajo is demonstrating his one of many skills: typewriting a melody line in logic pro.

FIELDRECORDING WORKSHOP UPDATE

OUR THREE PART WORKSHOP HAS ENDED AND WAS OVERALL CONCEIVED AS A GOOD AND PRODUCTIF COLLAB BETWEEN PARTICIPANTS AND ORGANISERS, WITH THANKS TO JUSTIN AND DEREK. LATER WE WILL COMPILE THE AUDIOMATERIAL MADE BY THE PARTICIPANTS INTO AN HOUR RADIOWORM SPECIAL.

Interesting quartet from china, having a recording session at the studio. They presented themselves for a full house at sunday with a great show. Upcoming RadioWORM is about Contemporary Music in China (part two) Thanks to Yan Yun and FM3 Zhang.

Derek Holzer At The Serge

Derek had an intensive two weeks at the WORM labs: ardour manual sprint and workshop at the MODDR lab, in between a lecture on field recording and he spent a week at our sound lab, studying the Serge. Here's a demo track and a short movie.

The Fieldrecording Workshop started last week with an inspiring lecture from Derek Holzer, taking us from birdview to fly perspectif into the many facets and points of view of fieldrecording.

MIDI IMPLEMENT PART TWO

With the arrival of two HKU sound design students, robin and nick, who will do an 10 week internship at the WORMstudio, the midi implementation takes a higher gear. Watch the coming weeks the progression we make, starting with ableton live and max for live patches, using two kentons to connect to the arp, the korg, the putney. We promise christmas tunes, cheeky arrangements and brandnew ringtones.
